Alejandro Cartagena (Dominican Republic, 1977), a photographer based in Mexico, develops a practice oriented toward critically examining the social, political, and economic structures that shape the contemporary city in Latin America. Grounded in long-term research and a multidisciplinary approach, his work moves between documentary and conceptual photography.

This talk offers an analytical overview of two decades of his production, from 2005 to the present, addressing some of his key series and the evolution of his visual language around themes such as urbanization, labor, migration, and social landscapes.

Cartagena will be in conversation with Arianna Rinaldo (Milan, 1971) in this event held prior to the start of the workshop the photographer will conduct at KBr (May 21–24).
